Blood Test Made Easy

Harry Potter Wizardry Sparks Idea for New Blood Test
May 7, 2012

SYDNEY (Deutsche Presse-Agentur) -- How come it is easier to find out if you are pregnant than what blood type you are?

Wei Shen, a chemical engineer at Australia's Monash University, was pondering the oddities of diagnostics while watching a Harry Potter film at his Melbourne home. There is a scene in the Chamber of Secrets where the boy wizard ask a question of Tom Riddle's Diary and, magically, the answer comes back in written form.

"Someone asked the paper for something and got a written reply," Wei Shen recalled. "It struck me. Why can't a blood test be like that?"

That eureka moment led to Wei Shen and his Monash colleagues coming up with a blood test the size of a Post-it note and with the texture of a paper towel. Smear a tiny trace of blood on the paper and it comes up with a written answer to the blood-type question of A, B, AB or O and whether the sample is Rhesus positive or negative.

The trick is that in the paper are four spots that contain the antibodies that go with each blood type. The answer, quite literally, shows up in blood-soaked letters because the antibody impregnations are in the form of letters.

The novel sensor, which should go into commercial production soon, addresses the potentially tragic consequences of blood-type sensors that require scientific knowledge to interpret correctly.

"If you build a sensor that doesn't report letters, you still have the problem that even though the sensor works the users will have to have the knowledge of the reaction in order to read it," Wei Shen said. "If you make this reaction in the form of a letter just like we did, the reporting of the sensor to the user is a lot more straightforward and the key thing is that it's unambiguous."

There are clear advantages to an unambiguous test in poor countries, on the battlefield or in natural disasters. "When you're in a rush, when you're under pressure, you don't want to make a mistake," he said. "This takes away human error."

And with cost pressures in the rich world, the push is on to have patients more involved in diagnostics.

"Simple diagnostics is not going to happen in the hospital anymore," he said. "Simple things can be diagnosed in the home and sent to the doctor by mobile phone or camera or computer."

Say aloha to cancer (opinion)

cancer

by: Hesh Goldstein

(NaturalNews) The following information is based upon offerings by R.Webster Kehr, Patrick McGean and Ron Neer.

The essential protocol to reverse cancer is to get massive amounts of oxygen inside the cells in the body. By doing this, the cells, both cancerous and non-cancerous, are given energy to make them healthy, and to kill microbes inside the cancer cells, which can revert the cancer cells into normal cells.

Understanding that the organs of the body are made up of cells is essential. So, to make the cells healthy has an ancillary effect in that it will make the organs healthy as well. Making the organs healthy equates to a healthy immune system as well. This protocol also addresses pain and inflammation as well as many other aspects important to a cancer patient.

All cancer patients need to explore other avenues in addition to chemotherapy and radiation, which, by history, has placed a five-year lifespan on a cancer patient for the most part. So, for a newly diagnosed patient, this protocol may be the only one needed, while for advanced cases, other modalities may have to be employed to deal with weakness, etc.

The main part of the protocol is the ingestion of Organic Sulfur Crystals, and in no way MSM powder, tablets, pills, or crystals bastardized with synthetic chemicals, which render it useless. Once the crystal is turned into powder it becomes 85 percent ineffective. When made into pill or tablet form, with the addition of synthetic binding and anti-caking agents, it will never be effective. For example, with the Opti crystal product, they add silicon dioxide to it. They add this to prevent the processing machine from clogging up. In France, one of our Directors's decided to offer our crystals as competition to Opti. Despite being sold at a much higher price he virtually put Opti out of business in France.

The suggested dosage is 1 tablespoon twice a day, 12 hours a part, as the sulfur leaves the body in 12 hours. For those that have been subjected to chemotherapy and radiation, the crystals should be taken three times a day in tablespoons. The crystals can be ingested directly from the tablespoon to the mouth or dissolved in water and drunk. There will be more about water to follow.

True organic sulfur crystals can deal with pain and inflammation and can get massive amounts of oxygen inside the cancer cells. This can kill the microbes inside the cancer cells, which can revert the cancer cells into normal cells. In addition, the sulfur will take the "trash" out of the cell every 12 hours. It will also expel heavy metals, which is important for many cancer patients and most patients with brain disorders. This also means that cancer patients with brain fog may benefit from the treatment as well.

Air is 21 percent oxygen and water is 89 percent oxygen. The oxygen from air gets to the lungs, heart and muscles. But, it is the oxygen from water that needs to get inside the cells both to make the cells healthy, to give them energy, and to kill the microbes inside the cells.

True organic sulfur is what grabs the oxygen from the water and transports the oxygen inside the cells. This produces a surge of oxygen into the cancer cells. Most of the other parts of this protocol are designed to prevent damaging the effectiveness of the sulfur.

There is no way to describe the importance of true organic sulfur in the treatment of cancer, brain disorders, and many other health conditions. Again, every part of the human body is made up of cells and getting sulfur and oxygen inside these cells is critical for all aspects of health.

Part two of the protocol deals with the intake of water. At no time and under no circumstances should you ingest chlorine. Chlorine in water will damage the effectiveness of true organic sulfur by blocking the oxygen from getting inside the cells.

If your community has chlorine in the water supply you should drink the water from the "hot water" side of the faucet. Why? Because the hot water evaporates the chlorine and even if you allow the hot water to get cold or put it in the refrigerator to get colder, it is chlorine free. In doing this, be sure to let the hot water run for a bit to expel any of the cold sided water. A second way to get rid of chlorine is to squeeze the juice from one or two lemons in the cold tap water and let it sit for at least 20 minutes. The lemon juice will dissipate the chlorine.

Also, avoid distilled water as the distilled water may leech minerals out of the body. Purified water is better.

The ideal daily consumption of non-chlorinated water, while taking the crystals, should be as close as possible to one half your body weight in ounces of water.

Bear in mind that the crystals are bitter. I do not understand why everything that works incredibly well is bitter, but that's the way it is. So initially, anyway you can get it down, get it down. After a while you'll be okay with it.

Another way is to put three tablespoons in a liter container, squeeze in a lime or two, add some honey, and fill with water, making sure the crystals have dissolved.

The third part of the protocol is adequate vitamin D.

Ultraviolet light from the sun is very important. As a minimum, the face and bare arms should be in the sunlight for at least half-an-hour each day. And cloudy days, except for when there are thick clouds, counts for this time.

Yes, not everyone lives in "sunshine" states. For you that do not, you can use an Ultraviolet A lamp indoors Ultraviolet B or C lamps are a no-no. You can use "bar lamps" or straight lights that are used for teen-age parties and are available wherever part products are sold and are usually advertised as "black lights". In all cases the lights should be on either side of the extremity or above and should not be used above the neck as it may have an adverse effect on dental amalgams. Also, after use, put a damp cloth on the lighted areas to avoid dehydration.

The fourth part is to take one-half teaspoon of "Real Salt" on a daily basis due to the fact that that product is loaded with a vast number of natural minerals important for the transport of oxygen.

As a final note, some of the ancillary effects of the crystals, in addition to cancer therapy, are:
Increased enzyme production, increased blood circulation, reduction of joint and muscle inflammation, elimination of free radicals, increased growth of hair and nails, regulate insulin production, alleviate migraines, emphysema, and asthma, reduce hangover time, reduce or eliminate diverticulitis, reduce hypoglycemia, alleviate PMS, promote better kidney function, reverse autism, and more. As if that's not enough!

Live and be well!
Aloha!

Magnesium - The True “Magic Bullet” for Optimum Health

2013
by Alicia Potee
Body in Motion
It can ease constipation and heartburn. It can preserve your memory. It can even take on heart disease and high blood pressure.

But it’s not some breakthrough nutrient poised to take the health industry by storm.

It’s magnesium—plain old magnesium.

Yet, given its effectiveness in nearly every body system, statistics show you probably aren’t getting enough of it. Research suggests that as much as 57 percent of the population doesn’t meet the RDA of magnesium every day. And, to make matters worse, your body’s absorption of this crucial mineral decreases with age.1-2

That’s a dangerous trend—because magnesium might actually be the most critical supplement in your arsenal.

It plays a key structural role in your bones and cells. It’s a vital ingredient in energy production—not to mention the generation of protein, lipids and key protective antioxidants. Worse yet, without it, nerve and cell communication, muscle contraction and wound healing would be all but impossible. 3

Needless to say, magnesium provides a long list of practical (and often life-saving) benefits. Let’s take a look at a few of them in more detail.

Boost GI Health

Boost GIDoctors have relied on magnesium salts as a natural cure for constipation and dyspepsia for decades. You know it better as milk of magnesia.

Magnesium salts are able to attract water to your intestines. This helps to stimulate gut motility and soften bowels. 4 (Though modern over-the-counter forms—like Maalox®—are designed to minimize its laxative effects and maximize its acid-fighting power.)

But these everyday uses aren’t the only support magnesium offers your gut. Recent research shows it can reduce your risk of colon polyps and colorectal cancer, too.

In a meta-analysis published in the September 2012 issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, scientists discovered a 13 percent lower risk of colorectal adenomas for every extra 100 mg/day increase in magnesium intake. The mineral had a similar effect on colon cancer, reducing risk by 12 percent. 5

Around the same time, another meta-analysis appeared in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

In it, Chinese researchers examined data from over eight studies and 300,000 subjects. They found that magnesium intake cut colorectal cancer risk by an average of 11 percent. 6

As you can see, adequate magnesium intake is more than helpful for gut health. It’s absolutely vital.

Powerful Relief for Aching Muscles

Aching MuscleEver wonder why those Epsom salt soaks feel so good when you’re stressed?

The answer is magnesium sulfate—the key ingredient behind this time-tested remedy.

Because magnesium plays such a big role in the nerve and cell communication behind muscle contraction, its benefits are two-fold. It relaxes and energizes your muscles.

For starters, it can ward off those crippling cramps that creep up during exercise. Magnesium regulates calcium flow into the nerve cells, which prevents overcontraction. Plus, low levels of this mineral can pave the way to greater muscle tension, soreness, fatigue and spasms. 7

Luckily, supplementation has the opposite effect. In fact, a small, blinded trial of 24 patients with fibromyalgia showed that long-term supplementation with a combo of magnesium and malic acid can yield significant reductions in muscle pain and tenderness. 8

Adequate magnesium intake is essential for muscle performance, too—especially as you get older.

Researchers examined this link in a recent clinical study of more than 1,000 adults over the age of 65.

The results appeared in the August 2006 issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. They found that higher serum magnesium levels have a significant link to better grip strength, lower-leg muscle power, knee extension torque and ankle extension strength. 9

Cut Risk of Heart Disease Death in Half

HeartGiven magnesium’s role in muscle health, this next benefit shouldn’t surprise you. It offers unparalleled support for the most important muscle in your body—your heart.

Plenty of studies have demonstrated the value of magnesium in preventing any number of serious heart maladies. It’s a first line of defense against arrhythmia (a condition that can lead to sudden death). 10 And supplementation can improve problems like weakness, chest pains and palpitations in patients with mitral valve prolapse too. 11

Magnesium also packs a serious punch against hypertension—one of the primary risk factors for stroke. Clinical research shows that daily supplementation with this mineral can cause significant declines in systolic, diastolic and mean blood pressure. 12-13

So it’s no wonder that a recent Japanese study of nearly 60,000 men and women showed that high dietary magnesium intake can cut your risk of dying from heart disease in half. 14

Boost Your Memory

MemoryMagnesium has a few lesser-known tricks up its sleeve, too. For example, scientists theorize that by elevating your brain’s magnesium stores, you can boost receptor signaling and improve synapse integrity and function. 15 Animal research shows that a new magnesium compound (called magnesium-L-threonate) may be able to enhance learning ability, working memory and long- and short-term memory. 16

A controlled clinical trial investigating this benefit in humans is underway now. But, in the meantime, filling up on magnesium may be one easy way to keep your mind sharp.

Give Insomnia the Boot

Sleeping WomenMagnesium can help you get a good night’s sleep, too. Of course, that makes perfect sense when you consider everything else that this mineral can do.

Chronic insomnia is actually one of the main hallmarks of magnesium deficiency. High magnesium diets, on the other hand, are associated with deeper, sounder sleep. 17

Both links are most likely related to magnesium’s essential role in sidelining muscle tension and cramping, which are common causes of sleep disturbances. But studies show that magnesium can also tame twitchy limbs. Clinical research points to this mineral as an effective foil against restless leg syndrome—both decreasing movement and increasing nighttime sleep. 18

And that means more peaceful nights may only be a single supplement away.

Magnificent Magnesium

Clearly, magnesium plays many important roles in optimum health. To ensure you have adequate levels of this vital mineral, aim for 600-800 mg of magnesium per day.

Magnesium oxide is a good form for overall health. For more specific conditions, you can work with your healthcare provider to ensure you are getting the right form and amount of magnesium to meet your particular needs.
