Breakthrough: How to Detect Cancer Super Early!

This is the first of two reports about the 2015 Cancer Control Convention and Doctors’ Symposium, held over Labor Day weekend at the Sheraton Universal Hotel, Universal City, California
One of the most compelling speakers at the 2015 Cancer Control Society’s Convention and Doctors’ Symposium was Jenny Hrbacek, R.N., who worked as a neonatal nurse. She made a bold promise: “I’m going to tell you how to detect cancer the size of a pin point.”
Here’s what she had to say. . .

By Andrew Scholberg

Jenny’s own story of cancer survival led to her quest to find ways to detect cancer years before the cancer shows up on conventional tests. When she was diagnosed with breast cancer, she was shocked to learn that it had been developing in her body for about seven or eight years. She had always had an annual medical exam, and each year the doctor had told her everything was “fine.”
She wondered how her health could be “fine” year after year, according to a doctor’s assessment of her annual exams, and then suddenly she’s diagnosed with a wicked case of cancer.
Her experience is typical. Even when conventional doctors diagnose early stage cancer, the reality is that the disease has been present for years. Before that, it’s simply too small to find – for them.
How this cancer patient “got smart”
After undergoing surgery Jenny submitted to four rounds of chemo. Her doctor also recommended the standard radiation treatments, but she decided to take a pass on radiation. Instead, she told the CCS audience that she got smart and decided to boost her immune system.
At one point, her doctor declared, “You’re cancer free. You have clean margins. Have a cupcake. Take multivitamins. Enjoy your life.” The hospital vending machine was jam-packed with cancer-feeding junk food.
A PET/CT scan did show she was clear of cancer. But she found out from a blood test that both the PET/CT scan and the doctor were wrong.
Jenny also found out later that it’s a mistake for cancer patients to submit to a PET/CT scan, because these scans zap the body with a huge amount of cancer-causing radiation. One PET/CT scan emits as much as 500 to 600 times the radiation dose of a simple chest X-ray. This excessive radiation beats down the patient’s immune cells, which are radio-sensitive, according to James Forsythe, M.D., one of America’s best cancer doctors.
Contradicting the results of the PET scan, the blood test showed that Jenny still had plenty of circulating tumor cells. In fact, she had the most circulating tumor cells the lab had ever seen!
Her doctors never specifically told her that chemo cures cancer, but they certainly led her to believe it would. They also never told her that chemo doesn’t do anything to kill circulating tumor cells, which can cause cancer to reappear just about anywhere in the body – after you’ve been told you’re “cancer free”. No wonder cancer so often comes back after patients submit to the standard cut-burn-poison treatments.
Jenny’s new book is groundbreaking. The title is Cancer Free! Are You Sure? In this book she describes ten tests that will detect cancer early — years before conventional doctors can find it. Jenny says that such super-early detection is crucial because it gives you an opportunity to make certain lifestyle changes, such as diet, stress management, and detoxification that will prevent you from ever getting an official cancer diagnosis from a conventional doctor.
Here’s a list of the tests she recommends for super early detection:
  • Cancer Profile Plus
  • Colon Health Screening for Occult Blood in Stool — Home Test Kit.
  • EarlyCDT — Lung Test
  • Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) test
  • Nagalase Test
  • ONCOblot Labs: ENOX2 Protein Test
  • Papanicolaou (PAP) and Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Tests for Cervical Cancer
  • Red Drop: Thymidine Kinase Test
  • Tests from the Research Genetic Cancer Center: Circulating Tumor Count (CTC) Test, Chemo Sensitivity and Resistance Test, Natural Substance Sensitivity Test, Immunity Test Panels, Megastasis Marker Tests
The costs of these tests vary widely. For example, the Cancer Profile Plus test by the American Metabolic Laboratories in Hollywood, Florida, costs $576.
In sharp contrast, the Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) test costs $55 plus the cost of U.S. Post Office first class international mail. You also need about $10 worth of household items for this test. The accuracy of this test is high, and the cost is dirt cheap. That’s why Bill Henderson and I recommend it in our book How to Cure Almost Any Cancer at Home for $5.15 a Day.
No one wants to know they have cancer, right? Wrong!
Had Jenny detected the start of her cancer seven or eight years before she got the official diagnosis of full-blown cancer, she’s confident she could have avoided a mastectomy and six reconstructive surgeries, not to mention four miserable rounds of chemo. She would have had the chance to make a few adjustments in her lifestyle, and the tumor would never have grown large enough to be detectable by mainstream tests.
She believes people would rather know they have cancer so they can do something about it, instead of burying their heads in the sand and pretending everything’s “fine.”
Cancer can only become a problem in a body with an environment that welcomes, fosters, and feeds cancer. Dietary changes, detox, and immune-boosting strategies can change the environment inside the body (the bio-terrain), making it hostile to cancer cells.
The problem is this: If you don’t know you have cancer, you have no motivation to change your lifestyle.
Thanks to the tests Jenny recommends in her book, you no longer have to wait for a lump or bump. You can now find out about a potential cancer problem when the cancer is the size of a needle point — years before conventional doctors would detect it.
I do believe Jenny’s book will save lives. Those who believe they may be at risk of cancer should definitely get her book, which she wrote for the general public.
In another presentation at the conference, Dr. Emil Schandl, Ph.D. spoke on “Pre-Visual Detection by the Cancer Profile Test” (one of the tests Jenny describes in her book). It’s available from his organization, the American Metabolic Testing Laboratories in Hollywood, Florida.
The Cancer Profile Test can detect the presence of just a few dozen cancer cells. Another test, ONCOblock (also on Jenny’s list) purports to identify where the cancer is, but Dr. Schandl says ONCOblock needs a few million cancer cells in order to identify the location.
Turning up the heat on cancer
Dr. Oscar Streeter, M.D., gave a presentation on hyperthermia, a heat therapy he provides at the Center for Thermal Oncology in Santa Monica, California. He established his credibility right away by showing “before” and “after” photos of a patient with a gigantic tumor on one of his eyes. Hyperthermia and radiation made the cancerous bulge over his eyelid disappear.
Long-time readers of this newsletter know hyperthermia is one of the most effective cancer treatments on earth. The therapy involves raising the part of the body affected by cancer – or, in some cases, the whole body – to temperatures similar to those you experience if you have a high fever. Just as a natural fever is your immune system’s response to infection, so the “artificial fever” of hyperthermia is an effective response to cancer.
It’s hard to understand why it isn’t used as a standard treatment. Heat treatments are not only safe but also remarkably effective.
Dr. Streeter’s clinic can give hyperthermia with chemo at the same time. The hyperthermia weakens cancer cells, and a low dose of the right chemotherapy drug can finish them off – instead of resorting to the high doses used in conventional treatment that cause miserable side effects.
Another speaker, Dr. Sean Devlin, D.O., seconded what Dr. Streeter said about the benefits of hyperthermia. Dr. Devlin treats patients at the Institute of Integrated Oncology in Santa Monica, California. He declared that hyperthermia is “probably the safest and most innocuous therapy we use.”
Another speaker, Dr. Kazuko Tatsumura, Ph.D., O.M.D., spoke on “Far Infrared Onnetsu Therapy” — another form of hyperthermia. Instead of heating up the whole body with an artificial fever, the Onnetsu device is an inexpensive way to heat up the part of the body where the cancer is located. She said that when the device finds the cancer, the patient can actually feel the tumor heating up.
According to Dr. Tatsumura, the Onnetsu, a hand-held device, improves blood circulation, flushes the lymphatic system (which is important for detox), and promotes the free circulation of qi (which she describes as electro-magnetic energy) along the acupuncture meridians.
The device uses far infrared heat to achieve deep penetration. The benefits for cancer patients are obvious, if you understand the concept of using fever to kill cancer cells. She said the Onnetsu also works on rheumatoid arthritis and benefits a wide variety of other health problems as well.
The Onnetsu isn’t just for health practitioners. It’s inexpensive enough that many patients purchase one for home use. But some instruction is necessary in order to get the full benefit from this remarkable device. Dr. Kazuko offers classes in Onnetsu therapy.
How to pay for alternative treatment if you’re broke
It’s ironic that health insurance companies willingly pay hundreds of thousands of dollars for toxic, dangerous – and usually ineffective — cancer treatments like chemo and radiation, but they won’t pay for inexpensive treatments that safely kill millions of cancer cells.
Although holistic treatment is cheap in comparison to conventional treatment, the cost can still be steep if you have to pay for it yourself. Holistic clinics typically charge $5,000 to $10,000 per week, and the course of treatment usually lasts about three weeks.
The question is: how can you pay for $30,000 worth of alternative cancer treatment if you don’t have that much in your savings account? Alex Barba of the Life Credit Company has come up with a solution. In his presentation he pointed out these pertinent facts:
  • Six out of ten bankruptcies are the result of medical bills.
  • Seven out of ten adults have life insurance.
  • Eight out of ten life insurance policies lapse without a payout.
Barba’s company offers cancer patients a cash advance of up to half the value of their life insurance policy (whole or term) to pay for alternative cancer treatment, collateralized by the life insurance. This is a brilliant solution to enable financially stressed cancer patients to pay for the kind of treatments that are most likely to be successful

When it comes to revitalizing your health, reversing illness, and just making you feel great, few things compare to an infrared sauna.
Infrared saunas are clinically shown to help fight cancer, reduce blood pressure, relieve pain, reverse heart disease, promote weight loss, and give you a host of other health benefits.
The deep healing power of infrared energy
Ever get in a car on a sunny day in winter? Wonder how it feels so warm inside when the air outside is freezing? That's the infrared light from the sun.
In this same way, infrared saunas penetrate up to 1-1/2 inches below your skin to detoxify and revitalize your cells. This produces a deep, detoxifying sweat that eliminates toxins at the cellular level. Infrared energy is powerful, yet it's so safe it's used in hospitals to warm newborn infants.
Using infrared saunas to fight cancer
Over 2,000 years ago, the famous Greek physician Parmenides said, "Give me the power to create fever, and I will cure any disease." Cancer clinics in Germany and Mexico are putting this principle to use. They routinely treat patients with hyperthermia, where the body is exposed to high temperatures. High temperatures can kill cancer cells, usually without damage to normal tissues.1
Most of the German cancer clinics that I've visited use both infrared hyperthermia and infrared saunas for their patients, and so do many of the Mexican clinics. Infrared saunas provide a form of whole-body hyperthermia that boosts your health in many ways. You can even enjoy infrared sauna at home, as I’ll explain in a moment.
According to Dr. Charles Majors, author of The Cancer Killers, The Cause Is The Cure, infrared heat can eliminate cancer, viruses, parasites, increase immunity and help speed up detoxification. "Infrared sauna therapy is a much deeper tissue penetration of heat, creating all of its benefits versus a traditional sauna."
Dr. Majors notes that infrared sauna therapy for cancer offers a combination of healing mechanisms including:
1. Hyperthermia - Heat kills abnormal cells. Cancer cells cannot tolerate heat, so they become weaker and much easier to kill. Raising body temperature can cause their death.
2. Increases Sweating- The sweating process gently and safely helps eliminate all heavy metals and toxic chemicals. Medical studies demonstrate that most toxins can be eliminated through the skin, relieving some burden on the kidneys and liver.
3. Increase Immunity- Infrared Saunas enhance white blood cell function, thereby increasing immunity and helping kill Cancer, infections, viruses, etc.
4. Help detox heavy metals- Using an infrared sauna increases detoxification of heavy metals such as lead, cadmium, mercury, arsenic, aluminum, nickel and many others. These metals accumulate in our bodies causing many health issues, symptoms and disease, including cancer.
5. Raises your body temperature- helps the body kill bacteria, fungi, parasites and viruses. Many people have a low body temperature and, for this reason, cannot get rid of chronic infections.2
Infrared treatment shrinks
tumor volumes 86% in 30 days
In a clinical study published in the Journal of Cancer Science and
Therapy
, scientists studied far infrared's effects on human cancer cells in vitro and on cancer cells in mice. Far infrared therapy reduced tumor volumes 86% in 30 days. The tumor-suppressing effects were even seen without high temperatures, even as low as 77 degrees Fahrenheit.3
In another study, researchers in Japan discovered that whole-body hyperthermia with far infrared strongly inhibited the growth of breast cancer tumors in mice without deleterious side effects. Researchers believe this therapy is promising for long-term studies of a noninvasive treatment of breast cancer.4
The healing power of 'cellular cleansing'
Most of us don't sweat enough regularly. We live in air conditioned homes, cars, and offices. We use antiperspirants and most of us don't exercise enough. But your body was designed to sweat. And sweat is a key way to cleanse your body.
The infrared sauna is a powerful means of cellular cleansing. It increases your metabolism and boosts blood circulation. It also relaxes your muscles, soothes your spirit and rejuvenates your entire body.
The deep penetration of infrared heat releases toxins from the fat layers just beneath the skin. It also helps your body eliminate toxins from your internal organs. These toxins pass from the organs to the fat tissue under the skin. Then they are eliminated in perspiration.
To see how this works, researchers analyzed the sweat from both traditional and infrared saunas. Sweat from traditional saunas was about 97% water and 3% toxins. Infrared saunas produced a sweat that was only 80 — 85% water. The remaining 15-20% was made up of heavy metals, sulfuric acid, sodium, ammonia, uric acid and fat-soluble toxins.5
The secret to effortless detox
If you're a regular reader of this newsletter, you're well aware of the toxins we're all exposed to in modern life. You also know well that many of these toxins in our food, water and air are believed to be a major cause of increased cancer rates. If you want to prevent or reverse cancer, you not only need to reduce your intake of toxins, you also need a regular program to get these poisons out of your body.
Infrared heat is incredibly powerful because it helps you cleanse at the cellular level and release toxins stored in your fat cells. Infrared saunas are also powerful because they're such a simple, easy way to detox compared to fasting, exercise, colon cleansing, and other detox therapies.
Natural weight loss
It is no secret that maintaining a healthy weight is important for overall quality of life. In fact, a 10-year study published by The New England Journal of Medicine found that waist circumference by itself is a critical factor in assessing the risk of premature death. In other words, if you can maintain a healthy weight, you increase your likelihood of a longer, healthier life.
Did you know that you now have basically the same number of fat cells as you did when you were born? Fat cells develop during the third trimester of pregnancy and you keep the same number your whole life. So how do you gain weight? Your fat cells store fat like a sponge that soaks up water. Infrared saunas help release fat (and the toxins stored in the fat) like squeezing water out of a sponge.
Infrared saunas have been clinically shown to dramatically aid in weight loss. A 2009 study showed that infrared saunas provide significant results in lowering weight and waist circumference in just 3 months. And for those who are sedentary due to medical conditions such as osteoarthritis, cardiovascular or respiratory problems, results were even more profound.6
Burn up to 600 calories while sitting still!
According to information published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, infrared sauna sessions were shown to burn upwards of 600 calories. During a sauna weight loss session, your core temperature increases and the body works hard to cool itself. While using an infrared sauna, there is a substantial increase in blood flow, heart rate, cardiac output, and metabolic rate, causing the body to burn more calories.7
Regular use of an infrared sauna may be an effective means of cardiovascular conditioning and burning of calories, akin to regular exercise. Using an infrared sauna is like giving yourself a passive cardio workout — whenever you need it!
As someone who always means to exercise and seldom gets around to it, I appreciate an easy way to get some of the benefits.
Drug-free pain relief
Infrared rays also help you naturally reduce pain and inflammation. Infrared sauna heat works by penetrating joints, muscles and tissues. It increases circulation, and boosts oxygen flow to the tissues. By reducing soreness on nerve endings, infrared heat reduces muscle spasms and helps the body heal itself naturally.
Infrared saunas are proven relief for sports injuries, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, joint pain/stiffness and other chronic pain conditions.
According to Dr. Jeffrey Spencer, a sports medicine expert from the University of Southern California and consultant to Lance Armstrong, "infrared wavelengths penetrate the body to create heat, which creates profound therapeutic benefits. They increase blood flow to the muscles, delivering more concentrated oxygen, which creates more energy to heal."
  • Significant Reduction in Chronic Pain: A study reported in Clinical Rheumatology showed that infrared saunas gave significant relief for patients with chronic pain (such as rheumatoid arthritis or ankylosing spondylitis). Four weeks of 30-minute, twice-weekly sessions in an infrared sauna resulted in a 40 percent improvement in pain and stiffness (for rheumatoid arthritis) and 60 percent (for ankylosing spondylitis).8
  • 70% Less Pain AFTER JUST ONE SESSION! A recent study published in Internal Medicine, showed that patients with chronic pain saw their pain levels drop by nearly 70% after their first session of infrared sauna therapy. Pain scores remained low throughout the observation period.9
  • Increase Flexibility Up to 300% A study conducted at the Auburn University at Montgomery compared stretching in a full spectrum infrared sauna compared to a typical training room environment. Participants completed a series of hamstring stretches in random order with 48 hours separating the sessions. Results showed that acute flexibility increased up to 3x in the sauna than without! Benefits to the increased range of motion include joint mobility, less friction in the joints, enabling of joint function to diminish stiffness and joint relaxation. View study.
Reduce blood pressure WITHOUT drugs
Infrared saunas have been clinically shown to provide one of the best, natural ways to lower blood pressure. In a 2005 clinical study by the University of Missouri Kansas City, infrared saunas were shown to lower blood pressure through a program of 30-minute infrared sauna sessions just three times per week.
The study concluded that infrared sauna therapy dilated blood vessels and reduced the thickness of their inner lining. This increased circulation and promoted healthy blood pressure.10
What's more, a Japanese study published in the October 2008 issue ofThe Journal of Cardiology examined the clinical effectiveness and safety of infrared blood pressure therapy, as compared to standard therapies for patients with chronic heart failure. The report concluded that far-infrared sauna therapy is both safe and effective at improving clinical symptoms and cardiac function in chronic heart failure patients. Repeated infrared sauna treatments improved impaired blood vessel functions in patients with high blood pressure, diabetes and high cholesterol. This suggests a preventive role for infrared sauna use for arteriosclerosis.11
Reverse heart disease
A study published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology showed that infrared saunas help improve the function of impaired vascular endothelial cells in patients who are at risk for coronary artery disease. The infrared heat of the sauna opens capillaries to improve blood flow. 15 minutes in an infrared sauna each day for 14 days improved the function of the endothelial cells lining the arteries by 40%.12
Research also shows that infrared saunas help:
  • Relieve arrhythmias: A clinical study explored the therapeutic use of infrared saunas for patients in the end-stage of congestive heart failure. It showed that saunas helped relieve arrhythmias (an irregularity in the force or rhythm of the heartbeat).13
  • Improve congestive heart failure: In the Journal of Cardiac Failure, researchers reported statistical improvements in blood pressure, strength of heart (ejection fraction on echocardiogram), and exercise tolerance in patients treated with saunas. Saunas also helped reduce the number of hospital admissions for this condition.14
Other important health benefits
It's hard to think of an aspect of health and wellness that infrared saunas don't benefit. But other clinical studies show that infrared saunas can help you:
  • Relieve Depression: A study published in Psychosomatic Medicine looked at a group of 28 mildly depressed patients. Half of the patients utilized an infrared sauna once a day for 4 weeks and the other half had just bed rest for 4 weeks. The sauna group showed a significant improvement compared to the control group.15
  • Boost Your Immunity: Infrared saunas are clinically shown to help patients with weak immune systems, such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections. MRSA is a potentially deadly bacterial infection that is resistant to most antibiotics. Infrared therapy knocked out the MRSA pathogens without causing increased inflammation.16 Another study from NASA showed that near infrared therapy, delivered by LEDs deep into body tissue, can quadruple cell health and tissue growth.
  • Give You Healthier, Younger-Looking Skin: A study published in The Journal of Cosmetic and Laser Therapyshowed significant improvements in skin appearance after just 12 weeks of sauna skin therapy using near-infrared technology. Participants saw a reduction in wrinkles and crow's feet, as well as improved overall skin tone, including softness, smoothness, elasticity, clarity and firmness.17
The health-boosting power of light
Most infrared saunas on the market produce only far infrared. However, a new development in the field is full-spectrum infrared. These are saunas that provide all of the benefits associated with far-, mid- and near-infrared rays. For instance, near-infrared energy stimulates the body's natural healing powers. Scientists call this photobiomodulation. In cancer patients, near-infrared is used for healing chemotherapy-induced ulcers and wound healing.18
Boost your cellular energy
for supercharged healing
Near-infrared energy boosts your cells' ability to create energy. This can help stimulate your immune system and your overall healing. It helps your liver, kidneys, intestines, lungs, skin, and other detox organs to neutralize toxins and work at peak efficiency. To create energy, the mitochondria (the power-generating centers inside every cell) depend on an enzyme called Cytochrome c oxidase.
Studies show that infrared therapy recharges mitochondria. It boosts their levels of oxygen and cytochrome c oxidase. This can help you maintain a cellular energy level that's usually only seen in young people.
How to use infrared saunas
If you're already in good health, a 30-40 minute sauna session three or more times a week will do. Or if you're trying to heal a specific health condition, some doctors prescribe daily or even multiple sessions each day.21
You can try an infrared sauna at a local health club, spa, or massage therapist. A typical fee is $30-$45 per 30-minute session. I also recommend purchasing one yourself. An excellent, cutting-edge manufacturer is Sunlighten, offering clinically backed 3-in-1 infrared saunas with a simple plug-and-heat design for easy home installation. Visit their website or call 1-877-292-0020. Another reputable (albeit more expensive) brand is TheraSauna. Infrared saunas, with their myriad health benefits, are definitely an at-home therapy option worth checking out.
If you decide to contact these companies you should mention that you read about infrared saunas in Cancer Defeated. But please be aware that these companies can’t give you advice about treatment for cancer or any other disease. It’s against the law for them to do that. You’d be wasting your time and theirs to ask what saunas can do for cancer and probably for most other health conditions. That’s why you need to read Cancer Defeated (and other sources of health information.) We have the first amendment right to tell you what supplement marketers and other vendors aren’t allowed to.

I Would Make Sure I Got This Treatment If I had Cancer

What’s one of the first things your immune system does when it senses a virus or bacterial infection, or other imminent illness?

In many cases, you get a fever.
Turns out, fever also has the power to destroy cancer cells — a phenomenon that makes it one of the oldest cancer treatments in the book.
A few doctors recognized the effectiveness of fever in the late 1800s for its ability to treat cancer. Today it’s widely accepted in some other countries, particularly Germany and Mexico, and it’s slowly making headway in the United States.
Not to beat around the bush, I consider it one of the most important of all alternative cancer treatments. If I had cancer, I’d make sure I receive this therapy.
It’s a potent treatment even for late-stage patients on their last legs or for recurrent tumors that are chemo-resistant or “over-treated” …
And if you’re healthy right now, you can use it to prevent cancer.
But how can a simple, physiological reaction become a powerful weapon in the war on cancer? And how can you use it, at home, completely safely and without side effects?
Is this natural response to cancer
still “experimental”?
Also referred to as “thermal medicine” or “thermal oncology,” hyperthermia is a well-established, potent anti-cancer therapy.
I’ve previously reported about it here … and we’ve written extensively about it in our books. (It was chapter one in Natural Cancer Remedies that Work and covered extensively in German Cancer BreakthroughA Guide to Top Clinicsand Amish Cancer Secret, our guide to Mexican clinics.)
As you can see, this isn’t a “new-fangled” alternative treatment.
It’s backed by more than 150 years of clinical evidence … a respectedInternational Journal of Hyperthermia … and three different scientific societies for thermal medicine, including one in Europe and one in Japan.
Not to mention that it’s your body’s natural response to disease.
In the early days, doctors would actually infect a patient with some kind of illness that would bring on a fever. This involved obvious risks, but in many cases it DID cure cancer, or at least knock it back.
Scientific studies go back to at least 1883. In 1957, three American oncologists reviewed 450 cases of “spontaneous remission” … and found at least 150 of them had occurred after the patient experienced an acute infection characterized by high fever.
That’s impressive evidence that fever can cure cancer.
Now modern technology can heat you up – or heat just part of you up – for a couple of hours, without resorting to viruses and bacteria.
The American Cancer Society still refers to it as an “experimental technique” and very few clinics in the United States offer it.
And even at the ones that do offer it — such as the Taussig Cancer Institute at the Cleveland Clinic — treatment usually comes in conjunction with chemotherapy or radiation.
In fact, of the 109 recent hyperthermia clinical trials registered with ClinicalTrials.gov, 63 involved testing chemotherapies in combination with thermal treatment.1
At German and Mexican clinics, it’s readily available with nontoxic alternatives like laetrile or mistletoe extract. And frankly, practitioners at these clinics have more experience with it than do those in America. What about safety? You’ll be pleased to know that hyperthermia is practically side effect free.
Cancer can’t take this kind of heat
Regardless of where you get it, hyperthermic treatment comes with a wide range of proven benefits:
First, hyperthermia largely leaves healthy cells untouched.
According to Dr. George Crile, a Cleveland Clinic doctor famous for his work on breast cancer in the 1950s, healthy cells can tolerate up to 111 degrees F.2 In general, this is the upper range of temperatures used in hyperthermia.
Cancer cells are highly unstable at these temperatures because of how rapidly they multiply.
According to Dr. Fernando Mercado, a hyperthermia expert from Sanoviv Medical Institute in Mexico, cancer cells have a higher metabolism and require more energy and glucose than normal cells. (I’ve been treated myself at Sanoviv – although not for cancer. It’s a wonderful, ultramodern facility with stunning views of the Pacific Ocean.)
It might seem counterintuitive, but cancer cells are under constant stress, making them weaker than healthy cells, and susceptible to damage from high temperatures.
In scientific terms, the heat slows or prevents cell proliferation, thus inhibiting tumor growth. It also damages the sensitive blood supply to tumor tissue and disrupts the tumor’s metabolism, which leads to increased apoptosis and cell death.3
Cancer cells get knocked to the ground when heated to within a few degrees of 107.6 F. At the same temperature window, healthy cells are happy to continue about their business.
This means even the frailest of patients can have hyperthermia treatment and come out better … unlike other modern cancer treatments, particularly high-dose chemotherapy.
Instead of Chemo, Wake Up Your Own Immune System
Second, hyperthermia stimulates your immune system — both your systemic immune system and immunity against your specific strain of cancer.
When your body thinks it has a fever (even if it’s artificially created), your entire immune system goes to work. T-helper cells, natural killer cells, macrophages, and cytokines (including y-interferon, powerful immune stimulators like interleukin-1 and -2, and tumor necrosis factor) all perk up and hit the deck.3
And, thanks to specific proteins called heat-shock proteins expressed on the surface of cancer cells, “red flags” go up that help immune system cells find and fight tumors more readily under heat.
Third, hyperthermia is essentially personalized cancer treatment — without the cost. Since high temperatures specifically activate the immune system against the individual’s unique tumor, this isn’t a “dose and pray” situation. Because of those heat-shock proteins, your body automatically goes after your cancer cells.4
This contrasts with chemotherapy, where most doctors virtually guess whether they’re using the right drug for the strain of cancer you’ve got. Conventional oncology does a poor job of matching the chemo agent to the specific cancer cell.
Fourth, thermal treatment has worked for even advanced and late-stage cancer patients, especially those who have been over-treated and are no longer responding to conventional treatment. Local hyperthermia (where only one part of the body is heated) works to boost the immune system in metastatic tumors as well.5
And, finally, in cases where chemo or radiation are truly necessary, heating the tumor first increases its sensitivity. The hotter a tumor is, the lower the dose of chemo or radiation required to get the same effect — usually around 30% of the full dose!
This means the patient is spared many of the dreadful side effects of chemotherapy.
But what does thermal treatment actually look and — more importantly — feel like?
The hyperthermia experience
There seem to be as many different thermal techniques, temperature ranges, and technologies to choose from as there are different types of cancer.
It’s a good thing, though — because it gives physicians experienced in thermal medicine many different options to personalize treatment as much as possible.
Generally speaking, there are three forms of hyperthermia: local, regional, or whole body.
Local treatment involves using heat within the tumor. For example, in one approach the end of a thin, heated probe is inserted into the tumor itself to heat up the cells.
Regional hyperthermia is applied around the general area of the tumor (usually by external means, not by an invasive probe like the one just described).
Whole body hyperthermia involves raising the core body temperature with heat lamps, hyperthermia machines that resemble tanning beds, saunas, or even something as simple as wrapping a patient in hot blankets.
Some physicians even choose to route the patient’s blood outside the body to heat it externally and then re-route it back into the arteries. (It sounds odd, but it’s a process called blood perfusion that’s used commonly in conventional surgery.)
Heat sources are varied as well. They include focused ultrasound, microwaves, radio waves, infrared light, and magnetic hyperthermia.
Thermal treatment can also be combined not only with the chemo, mistletoe extract or laetrile I mentioned, but also with radiation, infusions of intravenous vitamin C, curcumin, or vitamin E — all known to support the immune system and fight cancer. Vitamin E is also known to increase the sensitivity of tumors and, like vitamin C and curcumin, is a powerful antioxidant.3,5,6
All these intravenous infusions are greatly enhanced by hyperthermia because the cancer cells are in such a weakened state.
Overall, experienced physicians know exactly what the effective temperature ranges are, and how to monitor your body in order to keep you safe and make sure healthy cells are unharmed.
Temperature ranges even vary on a case to case basis, from “moderate” to “extreme.” Mild hyperthermia is around 100.4 degrees, while moderate is between 101 and 103 degrees for a few hours. This simulates a natural fever.
In cases of “extreme” hyperthermia — above 107 degrees — patients are sedated. It’s in the extreme thermal cases that it’s possible a patient may experience side effects like skin burns, edema, and even cardiopulmonary or cerebral problems.
As you can imagine, this is only performed by experienced doctors and only when deemed necessary. To the best of my knowledge it’s not available in the United States, although I’ve heard a few doctors quietly employ it.
Such side effects are rare. I wouldn’t hesitate to seek full-body hyperthermia from a skilled practitioner, especially if I had late-stage cancer. In fact, I’d make a point of getting this treatment.
It’s also worth noting that high temperature treatments like these aren’t an instant magic bullet. They often require multiple rounds of treatment.
Whole body treatments can only be performed once a week, while local or regional can be done more often.
Regardless, relaxing in a sauna or hyperthermia bed is far more tolerable, much less expensive, and comes with far fewer side effects (and stress) than traditional treatments. I believe it’s absolutely worth the time and effort to find a clinic that will treat you accordingly.
Hyperthermic treatment isn’t just good for cancer treatment though … it’s can also play a key role in cancer prevention.
Getting a regular “fever” can prevent cancer
Experts estimate you have around 100 million cancer cells in your body at any given time. The best strategy by far is to prevent those cells from gaining a beachhead somewhere in your body and expanding it.
You have several options for safely inducing short-term hyperthermia at home and raising your core temperature enough to kill cells, detoxify your body of potentially carcinogenic heavy metals and toxins, and boost your immune system.
I’ve previously reported that infrared saunas are excellent for effortless detoxification at home — and can be constructed for under $100 if you have the space.
Infrared sauna therapy not only helps detox your body from heavy metals and toxins, but creates a more alkaline environment which discourages cancer growth. (See Issue #167 for more.)
I prefer far infrared — the rays that “warm you to the bone” — because they deeply penetrate the tissue, up to 1.5 inches, and detox your cells more thoroughly. (However, those sensitive to electromagnetic fields might find the depth uncomfortable and near-infrared is fine for those folks.)7
The red color of the infrared light bulbs also gives you a double bonus: color therapy. Red light wavelengths easily penetrate the skin and stimulate mitochondria and your lymph system for detox.
Plus, when you combine artificial fever with vitamin C, E, and curcumin, you’re looking at a one-two cancer-fighting punch.
The bottom line is that enjoying a sauna or even a hot, relaxing bath a few times a week is an excellent addition to your anti-cancer regimen.
I’ll continue to keep you updated about new developments in the world of thermal medicine.
