Your Old iPhone 4 Could Be A GoldMine – Here’s Why

Do you still own that piece of dinosaur-aged music player called iPod Classic? If you do and the Apple’s gadget is still in working condition, congratulations. You own a piece of antic which could fetch millions of dollars in another 100-years, if it still works by then. Do not underestimate this clumsy, bulky and primitive music player. The160GB iPod Classic, which Apple discontinued in October this year, commanded 4-times its original price on eBay.

Although Apple had discontinued the product in favour of slimmer and more advanced iPod touch, the highest capacity of merely 80GB was simply no match to the 160GB iPod Classic. Music fans snapped the classic gadget and it reached a mind-boggling price of £550 (US$850; RM3,000) on eBay. That’s a freaking good return on investment for an electronic gadget, first hatched in 2002, which typically would depreciate like crazy.

eBay Selling iPod Classic for £550

Soon, there could be more legacy Apple gadgets which would follow iPod Classic’s step. Let’s see, do you own the first generation retina-displayed iPhone 4 or 4S?Better still, if you’re still using it, make sure you take good care of the gadget. Because in another 5-years, your iPhone 4 could fetch a similar premium price on eBay. Who knows, by then your 3.5-inch 326 pixels smartphone may be in great demand for whatever reasons (*grin*).

It could be due to the robustness of iPhone 4, which can easily beat the latest iPhone 6 any time. Well, at least iPhone 4 does not bend under pressure like iPhone 6. And the latest iOS that iPhone 4 supports – iOS 7.x – could be the selling point, as by the time iPhone 10 is revealed in the future, the iOS running on it is so crappy that Blackberry operating system today looks like a darling (*tongue-in-cheek*).

With more functionalities thrown into every higher version of iOS, it gets buggier and crappier. So, it makes sense that a more stable and simple iOS 7 (than iOS 12, for example) could see your iPhone 4 fetch multiple its original price on eBay. And the small 3.5-inch screen size could make it popular with consumers – either female users or people having problem with big-screen iPhones.

And if you think this prediction is merely nonsense, here’s a piece of rumour what Apple
plans to do next year, 2015. The Electronic Times of Taiwan has reported that Apple is doing a U-turn and is going to launch a smaller 4-inch screen iPhone in the second half of 2015. Apparently, Apple was rumoured to have arrived on such decision in view of the user’s convenience in operating the phone with one hand.

Presently, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus feature 4.7 and 5.5-inch displays respectively. For 5-generations from the first generation to iPhone 4S, Steve Jobs strongly believed Apple’s smartphones should have the most optimum 3.5-inch screen-size. Even 4-inched iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C were considered too big. But if it’s true that Apple’s production lines are gearing for 4-inch new iPhones, there’s no stopping them from restarting 3.5-inch lines as well.

The Evolution of iPhone Sizes - 2007 - 2014

The fact that some providers accept higher trade-in for iPhone 4 and its predecessors than other rival brands speaks volumes about premium attached to iPhone, not to mention that iPhone 4 was actually discontinued more than 3-year ago. Not many smartphone that had been out of production for such period of time can still demand such an attention and value. Perhaps the only sizes we will see in the future iPhones are 4-inch, 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch.

But there’re still tons of iPhone users who are still loyally using 3.5-inch iPhone 4. And it’s not hard to understand why. When you hold the iPhone in your hand and articulate your thumb, you can reach almost exactly to the other side of the screen, and top to bottom. This simply means it’s easy to touch any area of the screen while holding the phone in one hand, with your thumb. Now try to do the same with iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus or even iPhone 5.
