Boost Immunity with Thieves Oil

Did You Know
that an ancient blend of 5 essential oils protects against 99.96% of bacteria and many viruses—it even worked against the black plague?

Deep in the Royal English Archives is a 15th century recipe so powerful that it protected those who used it from the black plague.  This recipe involves a blend of 5 essential oils, and its use was traced to a group of thieves who, at the time of the black plague, were amassing a fortune by robbing the highly contagious dead bodies of victims.
Eventually, four of the thieves got caught red-handed by the king’s men while plundering.  In order to avoid being burned at the stake, the thieves made a deal: they agreed to reveal their secret to immunity.  The 5-oil blend they disclosed is now known as “thieves oil” and it can protect you and your family from a host of serious infectious diseases.
An Ancient Remedy Validated by Modern Science
The 5 essential oils that make up thieves oil are scientifically documented as highly anti-infectious…antiviral…antibacterial…and antiseptic.  The potent blend includes:
  • Clove Oil—Immunity Enhancing Antioxidant
  • Lemon Oil—Natural solvent and cleanser, supports circulation, potent antioxidant
  • Cinnamon Bark—High in antioxidants, enhances digestion, relieves discomfort
  • Rosemary Oil—Energizing; supports mental clarity and alertness
  • Eucalyptus Radiata—Strong antiviral, antibacterial, supports respiration

This combination encompasses a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity.  It also offers potent immune-boosting effects.  It guards against flu… colds… sinusitis… bronchitis… pneumonia… sore throat… strep… toothache… cuts… poison ivy… and weakened immunity.

Kills 99.96% of Germs
A substantial body of research confirms that most viruses and bacteria simply cannot live in the presence of many essential oils, especially cinnamon and clove.  Scientific studies have proven that thieves oil kills deadly germs.  Research from Weber State University in Utah showed that the blend has an impressive 99.96% success rate against airborne bacteria.
One way in which thieves oil protects against infections is by interrupting the life cycle of bacteria.  It also impedes the ability of viruses to replicate.
Nearly Unlimited Ways to Fight Infection and Boost Health with Thieves Oil
Just a few suggestions from alternative health practitioners include:
Apply a few drops to open cuts and wounds to prevent infection and promote healing.
Mix with a tablespoon of water, gargle and swallow for a sore throat.
Put a drop on your thumb and apply to the roof of your mouth for a headache.
Breathe in the vapors when you have lung congestion.
Apply to gums to prevent and treat gum disease.
Apply orally to maintain healthy teeth and reduce cavities.
Apply a drop or two to gums and teeth for pain relief from toothaches.
Mix with a carrier oil and rub on sore joints to relieve arthritis pain.
Mix 1-2 drops with honey for cough relief.
Breathe and apply for sinus headaches.
The possible applications of thieves oil are far too numerous to list.  Whether used externally on the skin or taken internally as a supplement in oil or diluted in water, this therapeutic oil blend can ward off illness and boost overall health and wellbeing.  Thieves oil can be found in some health and wellness stores as well as via online retailers.

Oil of Oregano Has Natural Antibiotic Uses and Health Benefits

oil of oreganoOil of oregano is a powerful natural antibiotic and has many other health benefits and uses. The oil is pressed from the leaves of the oregano plant (origanum vulgare) – not to be confused with common oregano used as a culinary spice (origanum majorana).
Although oil of oregano has long been prized for its anti-microbial and anti-fungal properties, as well as a remedy for stomach aches and coughs, recent studies have shown that its active ingredient, carvacrol, may be an effective treatment against bacterial infections that are resistant to drugs.
When used in low doses, oil of oregano has been favorably compared to the efficacy of antibiotics such as streptomycin, penicillin and vancomycin when it comes to fighting Staphylococcus bacteria.
Dr. Harry G. Preuss of Georgetown University presented his study’s findings, which confirm that oil of oregano reduces infection “as effectively as traditional antibiotics.” (Published in Science Daily)
The Journal of Applied Microbiology reported that among 52 plant oils tested, oregano was considered to have “pharmacologic” action against common bugs such as Candida albicans (yeast), E. coli, Salmonella enterica and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
The issue of growing resistance to pharmaceutical antibiotics has been troubling to medical practitioners. Various germs have shown resistance to a number of these antibiotics, including vancomycin, which is considered the most potent antibiotic. Resistance does not appear to develop against a naturally-occurring antibiotic such as oil of oregano. Price-wise, vancomycin costs approximately $16.00 per pill compared to approximately $1.00 for therapeutic strength oil of oregano.
Thymol, a chemical also found in oil of oregano, has been shown to be a powerful antifungal, antimicrobial, and antiviral agent.
Oil of oregano is available in either capsule or liquid form at most health food and natural food stores, as well as online retailers. Many swear by oregano oil’s benefits such as, the ability to stop colds, sore throats or headaches dead in their tracks. Still others use the oil to get rid of nail fungi or athlete’s foot. For best results, follow dosage directions on the package.

Natural Antifungal Oil: Eliminates Nail Infections and Athlete’s Foot

Natural Antifungal Oil Used to Treat Nail Infections

You may think that cosmetic companies add this essential oil to their products primarily to give them a pleasant aroma. But this oil has more than just a pretty smell. It also has antioxidant, mild sedative, and antispasmodic qualities. That means it can treat a myriad of complaints, including headaches, colds, aching muscles, and bug bites.
Now, scientists from Portugal have found another use for it. It destroys fungi.
If you have a fungal infection in a nail, on your feet (Athlete’s foot), or on your scalp, this antifungal oil may be more effective — and safer — than an antifungal drug. And it doesn’t cause antifungal resistance like drugs do. So if you have a fungal infection that won’t clear up, try this remedy.
I’m talking about none other than lavender oil, and it’s easily available. In fact, you can find it in most health food stores. I wouldn’t be without it. I think it belongs in everyone’s natural pharmacy.
antifungal oilThere aren’t a lot of antifungal drugs that treat infections. And many of the ones you can find have side effects. But side effects are rare with lavender. A mild skin irritation is one possibility that you can eliminate simply by diluting it in a little olive oil (one drop of lavender oil to one teaspoon of olive oil).
Because it’s such an effective sedative, it’s best to stop using it a week or two before any surgery. You don’t want to be taking an herbal sedative along with anesthesia.
The antifungal oil, lavender oil works by destroying fungal cells. It does this by damaging the cell membrane. Although its scent is mild, lavender is actually a potent plant with broad-spectrum antifungal activity.
Expect to see herbal antifungal products containing lavender oil in the future. Meanwhile, you can rid yourself of annoying fungi with little risk of side effects.

Artificial Sweeteners

December 18, 2013

Don’t Let Them Fool You… This Stuff is Total Poison
splenda-dangers
You know how dangerous diet sodas are. That’s what makes what we’re about to tell you all that much more disturbing…
Artificial sweeteners can cause a wide range of health problems. This includes a 48 percent increase in risk for heart disease. There’s also a link to unexpected disorders like depression.
Thankfully, people are finally catching on. Sales are down by about 7 percent.1 That makes the timing of this news so perfect for the beverage giants.
According to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), this ingredient has always been safe. Never mind the evidence showing how harmful this stuff actually is!
But they claim that they have been looking into its safety since 2002. And now, after their first-ever “full risk assessment” of this substance, they are more convinced than ever that it’s safe.2Too bad it’s total nonsense.
The fact is that the EFSA isn’t putting safety first.
Don’t be fooled by their flawed findings. Aspartame is never truly safe for you to consume.
Yet the EFSA continues to say that it is totally safe to consume 40 mg per kg of bodyweight.3
That means if you weigh 150 lbs it is safe to have 2,720 mg of aspartame in a day. The average can of diet soda contains about 180 mg of aspartame. That amounts to 15 cans of this garbage in a day.
But see how your body feels after drinking just one of those.
It’s no surprise that the data they looked at included the 112 studies from the 1980s when the beverage industry was trying to get aspartame approved for use. After all, 100 percent of industry studies find aspartame to be safe. But 92 percent of independent studies find risks associated with consuming it.4 Wake up EFSA and consider the source!
We’re not talking about just headaches or nausea either. We’re talking about serious, life-threatening illnesses.
Aspartame is the artificial sweetener of choice in most diet sodas. It’s what makes drinking them so dangerous to your health. And these sodas may be the single biggest source of aspartame for most people.
Be vigilant! Aspartame goes by several other names. These include AminoSweet, Equal, and Nutrasweet. Despite all of the undeniable proof of its dangers, it is the most popular fake sweetener on the planet. After about 30 years, aspartame now accounts for more than half of all artificial sweetener use.11
One study of nearly 60,000 women shows that drinking four or more diet sodas a day during pregnancy increases risk of premature birth by 80 percent. And nearly 40 percent of women who drank just two of these aspartame-sweetened drinks a day had a 40 percent increase in risk. Even more shocking is that this study was even funded by the European Union.5
After 22 years, researchers in a different study found that men who drink diet sodas containing aspartame are over 30 percent more likely to develop non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.6
Yet another study found that drinking more than two diet sodas per day can decrease kidney function in women by up to 30 percent in 11 years.7
Even if the EFSA wants to sweep these studies under the rug, there’s no denying that aspartame is converted by the body into formaldehyde. Yes, the same formaldehyde used to preserve dead bodies. This substance is a known carcinogen that can cause kidney damage and birth defects.8
Here in the US it’s worse. The FDA recognizes even more aspartame per day to be safe.9
Simply put, aspartame is dangerous stuff. And it’s hard to avoid. You can find it in diet sodas of course. But you can also find it in yogurt, chewing gum, breakfast cereal, and just about anything claiming to be sugar-free.10
Even more disturbing is that aspartame may be showing up in milk pretty soon. And if Big Dairy gets its way, you won’t even know about it. They won’t have to put it on the label.
Drinking any soda is never a good idea. Don’t try to find a diet soda that uses Splenda instead of aspartame. Your best bet is to avoid preservatives and artificial additives altogether. Stick with water instead.
The EFSA says aspartame is safe. But don’t let that fool you. The research doesn’t lie.

5 Natural Ways to Prevent Hair Loss

December 27, 2013

5 Ways to Prevent Hair LossSeeing more hair in the sink lately?
If you notice it coming out more often or in large amounts, you’ve probably already guessed the bad news. It could be a sign you’re experiencing pattern baldness, follicle damage, or alopecia. Or it could be caused by chronic inflammation or malnutrition.
But no matter the cause, nobody wants to lose their hair—man or woman. And while there’s no “magic” cure, you can naturally control how quickly you lose your strands. In fact, you might even be able to stop abnormal hair loss altogether. Here are 5 natural ways to protect your hair and keep it where it belongs—on your head, not down the drain.
1. Coconut Oil: Coconut oil is anti-microbial and anti-fungal. Applying it directly to your scalp helps keep it free of germs and dirt that can clog or damage your follicles. It does this without the harsh chemicals found in most hair care products. Yet it’s so strong that it has actually been used to treat head lice.1
If you use it before or after washing your hair, research shows that coconut oil can significantly reduce protein damage.2 You can pre-wash your hair with it to help clean your scalp of bacteria and buildup. It will also make your hair stronger and more resilient. No bad smell. No harsh chemicals.
2. Saw Palmetto: Saw palmetto does more than just support your prostate health.
Researchers believe that saw palmetto is effective for stopping hair loss because it stops testosterone from converting into dihydrotestosterone. It’s a compound linked to thinning hair and pattern baldness.3
You’ll find it in some high-end hair care products. But for the most benefit, we recommend you supplement. You can’t get this one from food and most multivitamins won’t give you enough of it.
3. Onion Juice: Ok, we admit it. This one does not sound pleasant. But onion juice really can make your hair grow.
One study showed that applying onion juice to the scalp twice a day caused hair regrowth in almost 90 percent of subjects. And they started seeing results in only six weeks.4
Like coconut oil, onion juice cleans the scalp. But it can also increase circulation and nourish hair follicles because it is rich in catalase. This antioxidant may help get rid of the hydrogen peroxide buildup associated with thinning and greying hair.5
As you can probably imagine, your hair may not smell great after trying this. Make sure to do this before washing your hair.
4. Vitamin D: This one isn’t all that surprising. Vitamin D keeps your hormones running smoothly, so it’s no wonder that it can help keep you from losing your hair.
Researchers in one study found that vitamin D may help stem cells grow new hair follicles in mice.6
Its receptors are crucial for hair growth. So while this vitamin won’t help you grow back hair that you have already lost, it may keep you from losing any more.7
Going out in the sun and getting active is an excellent way to get this vitamin. But you can also get it from eggs, cold water fish, and mushrooms.
5. Iron: Hair loss isn’t a problem exclusive to men. And in fact, it can be even more devastating when it happens to women.
One study followed 5,000 women over eight years. It found that women with low levels of iron in their blood tended to have the most hair loss.8
Iron helps transport oxygen to the scalp. Your hair follicles need oxygen to work at their best. Make sure that yours are getting enough air.
It’s easy to go overboard with iron if you take it as a supplement. This can lead to diarrhea and skin flushing. But it may also cause more serious problems, like fluid in the lungs.9 Instead, look to your diet to add more iron. Some good sources are oysters, spinach, eggs, and grass fed beef.
If you’re having a hard time hanging on to your hair, these natural solutions can help. Even if you just want to keep your hair from thinning, trying any of these will give your scalp and follicles the support they need to keep your hair growing thick and strong for 2014…and beyond!

Fix Your Home's Weak Wi-Fi

March 15, 2014

4663.jpg
Do Netflix movies keep stopping and starting when you stream them to a laptop or TV over your wireless Internet (Wi-Fi)? Does e-mail take forever to download on your iPad in certain rooms? The problem is likely your wireless router. The radio wave signals that your router emits may be too weak when they reach your devices. Some smart solutions to get a stronger, steadier signal…
Make sure that the router signals aren't impaired by physical barriers that cause interference and signal degradation. These may include concrete and brick walls, heavy furniture and metal objects such as tall filing cabinets.
Move the router to a more central location in relation to where you use your wireless devices most. Resource: Use the free Android smartphone app Wi-Fi Analyzer to locate the areas of your home where the router signals are strongest and weakest, and then place the router in the best possible spot that still is close enough to an available Internet cable or phone jack.
Helpful: It's usually best to place the router in a high position, such as on a high shelf or on top of a bookcase, to avoid barriers such as furniture.
Pay your Internet service provider for more speed. No matter what kind of router you have or where it is positioned, it can transmit data only as fast as the connection you have from your cable or telephone company. Internet speed is measured in bits-per-second (bps) and can vary at different times of day based on what else you are doing at that time on your home network.
To stream HD movies, for instance, at least 10 megabits per second (mbps) is recommended to avoid having the picture freeze up. Keep in mind that having multiple users in your home requires higher speeds. A dial-up modem transmits at up to 56 kilobits per second (1,024 kilobits is a megabit)…DSL service, typically up to 6 mbps…standard Internet cable service, typically 10 mbps or faster for an extra charge. More elaborate fixes are possible…
Add a wireless repeater. Plug one of these small devices into any electrical socket at the outer range of your existing router's coverage, and it acts as a mini router, catching the original router signal and extending it. Repeater to consider: SharePort Mobile Companion by D-Link (about $40).
Switch your router's channel. Wi-Fi routers send radio waves on different frequencies or channels. During setup, some routers automatically detect the least crowded channel as the default setting. But if you live in a neighborhood or apartment building with lots of new wireless connections, those routers may be using the same channel and weakening your signal. What to do: Start by downloading to your computer the inSSIDer diagnostic tool, which will analyze what channel your router is using and which one can offer you the best signal strength ($19.99, inSSIDer.com). Then refer to your router owner's manual for instructions on how to change the router channels.

Be Wary of Low-Price CT Scans

February 15, 2014

4647.jpg
Certain hospitals and medical facilities are aggressively advertising low-cost computerized tomography (CT) scans. These scans sometimes cost just a few hundred dollars or less, a fraction of the price typically charged. Some even are free. Why? So the medical facility will get your business if any treatment is needed.
A CT scan combines a series of X-ray views of the body taken from many different angles. But it's usually not a good idea to get a CT scan unless your doctor provides a specific medical reason why you need one. Each CT scan you get during your lifetime exposes you to radiation, increasing your risk for cancer. Also, though "precautionary" (not ordered for a specific reason) CT scans often are advertised as offering "peace of mind," they are likely instead to cause unnecessary health scares. The issues they turn up frequently turn out to be false alarms.
Potential exception: A recent study suggests that there could be some benefit to precautionary chest CT scans for certain long-term heavy smokers. This applies only to people ages 55 to 74 who have smoked a pack or more a day for 30 years or more.
An advertised low-cost CT scan could be worth investigating if your doctor has a legitimate reason to recommend a CT scan and you lack health insurance or you would have to pay a significant amount out of pocket for the scan under the terms of your policy. Contact the hospital recommended by your doctor (and your insurer if you have one) to ask how much you would have to pay for the scan. If it's more than a few hundred dollars, ask your doctor if he/she knows of any way to lower that CT scan cost—many hospitals have programs to help the uninsured and underinsured pay these bills. If not, ask your doctor if he thinks highly of the facility that's been advertising low-cost CT scans. If your doctor cannot recommend the facility, don't use it—there's little point in having a CT scan done at a facility that cannot be trusted to interpret it correctly. Alternatively, call around to other hospitals and medical facilities in your area, and ask them to quote you their prices for the CT scan you need. Rates can vary dramatically.

Groundbreaking new cancer study on graviola ,,,

... shows promise as a possible treatment
Thursday, January 10, 2013 by: Brad Chase

(NaturalNews) A new study on the herb graviola published in the October 2012 issue of Cancer Letter has cancer researchers buzzing. Graviola, the tropical fruit with the unusual nickname "sour sop," stops cancer tumor cells from growing in pancreatic cancer.

Scientists prove the cancer-healing abilities of graviola in the lab and in living tissue

Oncologists agree that pancreatic cancer is one of the most difficult types of cancer to treat, and that being diagnosed with cancer of the pancreas is as good as a death sentence. The new study, performed by a cancer research team at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, shows that graviola kills pancreatic cancer cells by inhibiting cellular metabolism. This cancer tumor-fighting ability has been confirmed both in test tubes and in live subjects.

Graviola works by inhibiting numerous signaling pathways that manage how pancreatic cancer cells grow, how long they live, and how the cancer tumors spread within the host. By altering these parameters, the rate of new cancer cell growth and spread of the disease slowed significantly.

The team of researchers considers the characteristics possessed by graviola "promising."

Graviola stops breast cancer as well

Nutrition and Cancer
confirms the cancer- inhibiting phytochemicals in graviola. The medical journal's June 2011 issue includes a study on graviola and breast cancer. In this study, scientists at Virginia Tech demonstrated that graviola fruit extract (juice) could reduce the growth of cancer on the skin of human breast cancer patients without damaging healthy breast tissue.

Mice who took 200 mg graviola fruit extract per kilogram of food in their diet for five weeks had a significant reduction in protein expression in breast cancer tumors. Overall, graviola extract was able to reduce tumor growth by 32 percent.

Graviola benefits do not stop at cancer

Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center has a new page on its website describing the health benefits of graviola. Besides slowing cancer, MSKCC gives clinical evidence that graviola also fights viruses, kills parasites, reduces inflammation, and reverses the glycemic load which leads to diabetes.

These medical studies suggest that graviola extract may be useful to treat herpes simplex virus-1 (Journal of Ethnopharmacology, 1998) and other viral infections.

Graviola is associated with neurotoxicity in one people group

For most people, the graviola, or sour sop fruit, is considered a stand-alone dessert fruit with a flavor described as strawberry-pineapple mixed with coconut or banana cream. It is a popular flavor for juices and ice cream in Central American countries.

However, the fruit has been associated with a neurological disease similar to Parkinson's disease on the Caribbean Island of Guadeloupe, according to several studies, including one published in a 2006 article of the Journal of Neural Transmission.

Natural Cancer Cure:
A Million Times Stronger Than Chemo
and No Side Effects?
Dear Reader,

espite the lack of mainstream media coverage for alternative therapies, there are many botanically based cures shown to be effective against serious and life threatening illnesses, including cancer.

One potent remedy ignored by mainstream press is graviola(also known as soursop, guanaba, and numerous other names.)  This South American fruit is green and heart shaped, and about 6 to 8 inches in diameter.  In addition to South America, the tree is found on various tropical islands and grows best in rainforest climates.

Research demonstrates that powerful substances in graviola—called annonaceous acetogenins—may arrest cancer tumor growth and may even protect your body from developing cancer cells.  Study results have been highly promising:

In one laboratory study published in the November 2010 issue of Molecules, graviola's Annonaceous acetogenins slowed the spread of lung cancer and cancer of the laryngeal cells.

In a 2001 study published in the Journal of Natural Products, a compound extracted from graviola seeds killed liver cancer cells without harming healthy cells.
However, as promising as these results are, graviola is no match for the bark of an even lesser-known North American fruit tree.  That's because extracts of this North American fruit tree bark contain double-ringed acetogenins that have proven in laboratory studies to be a million times more effective than some chemo drugs.

A Million Times Stronger Than Chemo Drugs—with No Harmful Side Effects

The bark of this North American fruit tree is exceedingly more powerful than graviola as an effective cancer treatment, according to results of a $5 million study funded by the National Cancer Institute (NCI).  It was in this NCI-funded study that this fruit tree was shown to be a million times more effective than chemo drugs, without toxic effects on healthy cells.

This is in stark contrast to the dismal 2% success rate of chemo, which is widely feared for its debilitating and long-lasting poisonous effects throughout the body.

An award-winning researcher renowned for his studies with botanical cancer treatments, Dr. Jerry McLaughlin of Purdue University, oversaw the NCI-funded experiments using this fruit tree.  Dr. McLaughlin also took the extract out of the lab and tested it with cancer patients, to see if the results held up in the real world.

In one study, an extract of this fruit tree's bark was administered to 130 of Dr. McLaughlin's cancer patients.  Their conditions were then monitored for a year and a half.  The study included all different types and stages of cellular abnormalities.

The results?  CT scans and other tests verified significant reductions in the size of abnormal growths, and significant reductions in antigen levels reflected various well-recognized tumor markers.

Another medical researcher practitioner, Kimberly D. Balas, Ph.D., was equally astonished by the results she saw when she used this extract to treat her patients.  "I had people respond [measured by CA markers, substances produced by tumors that indicate the existence and severity of cancer in the body] in as little as 3 weeks ... I have someone that has low WBC and stage IV cancer.  Her CA-15-3 markers are down by about 125%!"

This Extract Actually Targets
Multi-Drug-Resistant Cancer Cells

The best news is cancer treatments derived from this North American fruit tree may even be effective against tumors that have previously been resistant to anticancer agents.  In fact, it seems to seek out and specially target those resistant cells.

"Multi-drug resistant cancer is hard to treat because the cancer cell has developed a mechanism to get around the anticancer agent," said Dr. McLaughlin in an interview for thePurdue News Service.  "Tumor cells that survive chemotherapy treatments often recover with increased resistance to the agent used in the original treatment as well as to other related drugs."

Where other drugs fail, however, this botanical extract seeks out and destroys those extra-resistant cells from the inside out.

Why Has This Proven Cure Been Deliberately Kept Secret from the Public?

Practically every week, new alternative health breakthroughs are discovered.  Most of these health breakthroughs, such as the North American fruit tree above, are already scientifically proven to heal a wide variety of diseases ... eliminate pain ... slow down or reverse the aging process ... and enhance health and longevity.

Yet, these powerful health alternatives—most of which are inexpensive or free—are unknown to most people because mainstream media rarely reports them.  To the contrary, these powerful health solutions are systematically suppressed and even banned.

The reason for this is simple: these inexpensive natural treatments threaten the profits of mainstream medicine and the pharmaceutical industry.  Imagine what would happen to the earnings of Big Pharma and the medical industry if people had the information they needed to heal themselves of virtually any disease or health problem?  Everyone would be able to optimize his or her own health and well-being ... and no one ever needed medical treatment again—except for emergencies and natural disasters.

Click here to discover the North American fruit tree extract proven in a National Cancer Institute-funded experiment to be a million times more powerful than chemotherapy, with no harmful side effects.  Gain access to hundreds of other scientifically validated natural cures for life-threatening diseases, including the diabetes remedy with a 100% success rate ... the non-drug arthritis cure that reverses the breakdown of cartilage... the mind technology that causes spontaneous remission from disease ... and more.  Discover the single best source of "underground" health breakthroughs that most people will never know.

Melatonin Reduces Prostate Cancer Risk

This Hormone Reduces Prostate Cancer Risk by 75 Percent

Melatonin is the hormone that helps regulate your circadian rhythm. It keeps your body's internal clock running smoothly. But your levels drop as you get older. And not having enough can do more than just keep you up at night...
It may put you at risk for advanced prostate cancer.
Researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health measured melatonin levels in 928 men. They found that men who produce have a lower risk for developing advanced prostate cancer. And we're not talking small odds, either. These men reduced their risk by 75 percent.
Melatonin blocks the growth of prostate cancer cells. Having enough also helps control other sleep-related risk factors for developing prostate cancer.
Melatonin is also a potent antioxidant. It's 200 percent more powerful than vitamin E. Getting more of it may help to keep your immune system strong.
Without optimal melatonin levels, you won't get restful sleep. The result? It throws off your circadian rhythm. This can make you produce even less melatonin.
This cycle is what puts you at risk for advanced prostate cancer. That's why you have to make sure your body is producing enough melatonin on its own.
Sure, you can take a supplement. But remember, melatonin is a hormone. Taking it as a supplement on a regular basis may disrupt your natural hormonal balance.
Instead, try to eat the right foods.
Researchers in Thailand found that fruits like orange and banana help. But pineapple increases your levels of aMT6-s by as much as 266 percent. It's a metabolite in your urine that measures circulating melatonin levels. Tart cherry juice also helps your body produce more of the hormone.
Also make sure you avoid bright, artificial lights late at night. That includes television and glowing electronics. Remember, you produce this hormone naturally in the absence of any light. Make the room you sleep in as dark as possible.

The 9 Foods You Should Never Eat - MUST READ

June 10, 2013 | 1,665,693 views

Story at-a-glance
  • Studies have repeatedly shown artificial sweeteners stimulate appetite, increase carbohydrate cravings, stimulate fat storage and weight gain. One recent study found both saccharin and aspartame cause greater weight gain than sugar
  • Processed meats increase your risk of cancer, especially bowel cancer, and NO amount of processed meat is "safe." So ditch the deli meats and opt instead for fresh organically-raised grass-fed or pastured meats, or wild caught salmon
  • Margarine and vegetable oils are two of the absolute worst fats to eat. Both contain heart-harming trans fats, for example. Your best alternative for cooking is coconut oil, as it’s less susceptible to heat damage
  • Microwave popcorn, table salt, non-organic produce like potatoes, and unfermented soy products, including soy protein isolate, are more harmful than beneficial as they all contain hazardous contaminants
  • Most canned foods contain BPA, a toxic chemical. Acidity causes BPA to leach into your food. Stick to fresh fruits and vegetables, or switch over to brands that use glass containers instead—especially for acidic foods like tomatoes

By Dr. Mercola

Many foods have been heavily promoted as being healthy when they are nothing more than pernicious junk foods. In the featured article, Clean Plates1 founder Jared Koch shared his list of nine staple foods that are far less “good for you” than you’ve been led to believe.
Here, I expand on the selections that are mentioned in the featured article.

1. Canned Tomatoes

Many leading brands of canned foods contain BPA -- a toxic chemical linked to reproductive abnormalities, neurological effects, heightened risk of breast and prostate cancers, diabetes, heart disease and other serious health problems. According to Consumer Reports’ testing, just a couple of servings of canned food can exceed the safety limits for daily BPA exposure for children.
High acidity — a prominent characteristic of tomatoes – causes BPA to leach into your food. To avoid this hazardous chemical, avoid canned foods entirely and stick to fresh fruits and vegetables, or switch over to brands that use glass containers instead—especially for acidic foods like tomatoes.

2. Processed Meats

As Koch warns, processed deli meats like salami, ham, and roast beef are typically made with meats from animals raised in confined animal feeding operations (CAFOs).
This means they’re given growth hormones, antibiotics and other veterinary drugs, and raised in deplorable conditions that promote disease, these meats are also filled with sodium nitrite (a commonly used preservative and antimicrobial agent that also adds color and flavor) and other chemical flavorings and dyes.
Nitrites can be converted into nitrosamines in your body, which are potent cancer-causing chemicals. Research has linked nitrites to higher rates of colorectal, stomach and pancreatic cancer. But that’s not all. Most processed deli meats also contain other cancer-promoting chemicals that are created during cooking. These include:
  • Heterocyclic Amines (HCAs) which are hazardous compounds created in meats and other foods that have been cooked at high temperatures. According to research, processed meats are clearly associated with an increased risk of stomach, colon and breast cancers.
  • Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs): Many processed meats are smoked as part of the curing process, which causes PAHs to form. PAHs can also form when grilling. When fat drips onto the heat source, causing excess smoke, and the smoke surrounds your food, it can transfer cancer-causing PAHs to the meat.
  • Advanced Glycation End Products (AGEs): When food is cooked at high temperatures—including when it is pasteurized or sterilized—it increases the formation of AGEs in your food. AGEs build up in your body over time leading to oxidative stress, inflammation and an increased risk of heart disease, diabetes and kidney disease.
The truth is, processed meats are not a healthful choice for anyone and should be avoided entirely, according to a 2011 review of more than 7,000 clinical studies examining the connection between diet and cancer. The report was commissioned by The World Cancer Research Fund2 (WCRF) using money raised from the general public. Therefore the findings were not influenced by any vested interests, which makes it all the more reliable.
It's the biggest review of the evidence ever undertaken, and it confirms previous findings: Processed meats increase your risk of cancer, especially bowel cancer, and NO amount of processed meat is "safe." You’re far better off ditching the deli meats and opting instead for fresh organically-raised grass-fed meats, or wild caught salmon.

3. Margarine

The unfortunate result of the low-fat diet craze has been the shunning of healthful fats such as butter, and public health has declined as a result of this folly. There are a myriad of unhealthy components to margarine and other butter impostors, including:
  • Trans fats: These unnatural fats in margarine, shortenings and spreads are formed during the process of hydrogenation, which turns liquid vegetable oils into a solid fat. Trans fats contribute to heart disease, cancer, bone problems, hormonal imbalance and skin disease; infertility, difficulties in pregnancy and problems with lactation; and low birth weight, growth problems and learning disabilities in children. A US government panel of scientists determined that man-made trans fats are unsafe at any level.
  • Free radicals: Free radicals and other toxic breakdown products are the result of high temperature industrial processing of vegetable oils. They contribute to numerous health problems, including cancer and heart disease.
  • Emulsifiers and preservatives: Numerous additives of questionable safety are added to margarines and spreads. Most vegetable shortening is stabilized with preservatives like BHT.
  • Hexane and other solvents: Used in the extraction process, these industrial chemicals can have toxic effects.
Good-old-fashioned butter, when made from grass-fed cows, is rich in a substance called conjugated linoleic acid (CLA). Much of the reason why butter is vilified is because it contains saturated fat. If you're still in the mindset that saturated fat is harmful for your health, then please read the Healthy Fatssection of my Optimized Nutrition Plan to learn why saturated fat is actually good for you.

4. Vegetable Oils

Of all the destructive foods available to us, those made with heated vegetable oils are some of the worst. Make no mistake about it--vegetable oils are not the health food that you were lead to believe they were. This is largely due to the fact that they are highly processed, and when consumed in massive amounts, as they are by most Americans, they seriously distort the important omega-6 to omega-3 ratio. Ideally, this ratio is 1:1.
Anytime you cook a food, you run the risk of creating heat-induced damage. The oils you choose to cook with must be stable enough to resist chemical changes when heated to high temperatures, or you run the risk of damaging your health. One of the ways vegetable oils can inflict damage is by converting your good cholesterol into bad cholesterol—by oxidizing it. When you cook with polyunsaturated vegetable oils (such as canola, corn, and soy oils), oxidized cholesterol is introduced into your system.
As the oil is heated and mixed with oxygen, it goes rancid. Rancid oil is oxidized oil and should NOT be consumed—it leads directly to vascular disease. Trans-fats are introduced when these oils are hydrogenated, which increases your risk of chronic diseases like breast cancer and heart disease.
So what's the best oil to cook with?
Of all the available oils, coconut oil is the oil of choice for cooking because it is nearly a completely saturated fat, which means it is much less susceptible to heat damage. And coconut oil is one of the most unique and beneficial fats for your body. For more in-depth information about the many benefits of coconut oil, please see this special report. Olive oil, while certainly a healthful oil, is easily damaged by heat and is best reserved for drizzling cold over salad.

5. Microwave Popcorn

Perfluoroalkyls, which include perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), and perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS), are chemicals used to keep grease from leaking through fast food wrappers, are being ingested by people through their food and showing up as contaminants in blood. Microwave popcorn bags are lined with PFOA, and when they are heated the compound leaches onto the popcorn.
These chemicals are part of an expanding group of chemicals commonly referred to as "gender-bending" chemicals, because they can disrupt your endocrine system and affect your sex hormones. The EPA has ruled PFCs as "likely carcinogens," and has stated that PFOA "poses developmental and reproductive risks to humans." Researchers have also linked various PFCs to a range of other health dangers, such as:
  • Infertility -- A study published in the journal Human Reproduction3 found that both PFOA and PFOS (perfluorooctane sulfonate), dramatically increased the odds of infertility. PFOA was linked to a 60 to 154 percent increase in the chance of infertility.
  • Thyroid disease -- A 2010 study4 found that PFOA can damage your thyroid function. Individuals with the highest PFOA concentrations were more than twice as likely to report current thyroid disease, compared to those with the lowest PFOA concentrations. Your thyroid contains thyroglobulin protein, which binds to iodine to form hormones, which in turn influence essentially every organ, tissue and cell in your body. Thyroid hormones are also required for growth and development in children. Thyroid disease, if left untreated, can lead to heart disease, infertility, muscle weakness, and osteoporosis.
  • Cancer -- PFOA has been associated with tumors in at least four different organs in animal tests (liver, pancreas, testicles and mammary glands in rats), and has been associated with increases in prostate cancer in PFOA plant workers.
  • Immune system problems -- Several studies by scientists in Sweden indicate that PFCs have an adverse effect on your immune system. As described in a report on PFCs by the Environmental Working Group (EWG), PFOA was found to decrease all immune cell subpopulations studied, in the thymus and spleen, and caused immunosupression.
  • Increased LDL cholesterol levels – A 2010 study in the Archives of Pediatric & Adolescent Medicine5 found that children and teens with higher PFOA levels had higher levels of total cholesterol and LDL or "bad" cholesterol, while PFOS was associated with increased total cholesterol, including both LDL cholesterol and HDL or "good" cholesterol.
I strongly recommend avoiding any product you know containing these toxic compounds, particularly non-stick cookware, but also foods sold in grease-proof food packaging, such as fast food and microwave popcorn. Clearly, if you're eating fast food or junk food, PFCs from the wrapper may be the least of your problems, but I think it's still important to realize that not only are you not getting proper nutrition from the food itself, the wrappers may also add to your toxic burden.

6. Non-Organic Potatoes and Other Fresh Produce Known for High Pesticide Contamination

Your best bet is to buy only organic fruits and vegetables, as synthetic agricultural chemicals are not permissible under the USDA organic rules. That said, not all conventionally grown fruits and vegetables are subjected to the same amount of pesticide load. While Koch focuses on potatoes, as they tend to take up a lot of pesticides and other agricultural chemicals present in the soil, I would recommend reviewing the "Shopper’s Guide to Pesticides in Produce"6 by the Environmental Working Group.
Of the 48 different fruit and vegetable categories tested by the EWG for the 2013 guide, the following 15 fruits and vegetables had the highest pesticide load, making them the most important to buy or grow organically:
ApplesCeleryCherry tomatoes
CucumbersGrapesHot peppers
Nectarines (imported)PeachesPotatoes
SpinachStrawberriesSweet bell peppers
KaleCollard greensSummer squash

In contrast, the following foods were found to have the lowest residual pesticide load, making them the safest bet among conventionally grown vegetables. Note that a small amount of sweet corn and most Hawaiian papaya, although low in pesticides, are genetically engineered (GE). If you’re unsure of whether the sweet corn or papaya is GE, I’d recommend opting for organic varieties:
AsparagusAvocadoCabbage
CantaloupeSweet corn (non-GMO)Eggplant
GrapefruitKiwiMango
MushroomsOnionsPapayas (non-GMO. Most Hawaiian papaya is GMO)
PineappleSweet peas (frozen)Sweet potatoes

7. Table Salt

Salt is essential for life—you cannot live without it. However, regular ‘table salt’ and the salt found in processed foods are NOT identical to the salt your body really needs. In fact, table salt has practically nothing in common with natural salt. One is health damaging, and the other is healing.
  • Processed salt is 98 percent sodium chloride, and the remaining two percent comprises man-made chemicals, such as moisture absorbents, and a little added iodine. These are dangerous chemicals like ferrocyanide and aluminosilicate. Some European countries, where water fluoridation is not practiced, also add fluoride to table salt
  • Natural salt is about 84 percent sodium chloride. The remaining 16 percent of natural salt consists of other naturally occurring minerals, including trace minerals like silicon, phosphorous and vanadium
Given that salt is absolutely essential to good health, I recommend switching to a pure, unrefined salt. My favorite is an ancient, all-natural sea salt from the Himalayas. Himalayan salt is completely pure, having spent many thousands of years maturing under extreme tectonic pressure, far away from impurities, so it isn't polluted with the heavy metals and industrial toxins of today. And it's hand-mined, hand-washed, and minimally processed. Himalayan salt is only 85 percent sodium chloride, the remaining 15 percent contains 84 trace minerals from our prehistoric seas. Unrefined natural salt is important to many biological processes, including:
  • Being a major component of your blood plasma, lymphatic fluid, extracellular fluid, and even amniotic fluid
  • Carrying nutrients into and out of your cells
  • Maintain and regulate blood pressure
  • Increasing the glial cells in your brain, which are responsible for creative thinking and long-term planning
  • Helping your brain communicate with your muscles, so that you can move on demand via sodium-potassium ion exchange
While natural unprocessed salt has many health benefits, that does not mean you should use it with impunity. Another important factor is the potassium to sodium ratio of your diet. Imbalance in this ratio can not only lead to hypertension (high blood pressure) and other health problems, including heart disease, memory decline, erectile dysfunction and more. The easiest way to avoid this imbalance is by avoiding processed foods, which are notoriously low in potassium while high in sodium. Instead, eat a diet of whole, ideally organically-grown foods to ensure optimal nutrient content. This type of diet will naturally provide much larger amounts of potassium in relation to sodium.

8. Soy Protein Isolate and Other Unfermented Soy Products

Sadly, most of what you have been led to believe by the media about soy is simply untrue. One of the worst problems with soy comes from the fact that 90 to 95 percent of soybeans grown in the US are genetically engineered (GE), and these are used to create soy protein isolate. Genetically engineered soybeans are designed to be "Roundup ready,” which means they’re engineered to withstand otherwise lethal doses of herbicide.
The active ingredient in Roundup herbicide is called glyphosate, which is responsible for the disruption of the delicate hormonal balance of the female reproductive cycle. What's more, glyphosate is toxic to the placenta, which is responsible for delivering vital nutrients from mother to child, and eliminating waste products. Once the placenta has been damaged or destroyed, the result can be miscarriage. In those children born to mothers who have been exposed to even a small amount of glyphosate, serious birth defects can result.
Glyphosate’s mechanism of harm was only recently identified, and demonstrates how this chemical disrupts cellular function and induce many of our modern diseases, including autism. Soy protein isolate can be found in protein bars, meal replacement shakes, bottled fruit drinks, soups and sauces, meat analogs, baked goods, breakfast cereals and some dietary supplements.
Even if you are not a vegetarian and do not use soymilk or tofu, it is important to be a serious label reader. There are so many different names for soy additives, you could be bringing home a genetically modified soy-based product without even realizing it. Soy expert Dr. Kaayla Daniel offers a free Special Report7, "Where the Soys Are," on her Web site. It lists the many "aliases" that soy might be hiding under in ingredient lists -- words like "bouillon," "natural flavor" and "textured plant protein."
Besides soy protein isolate, ALL unfermented soy products are best avoided if you value your health. Thousands of studies have linked unfermented soy to malnutrition, digestive distress, immune-system breakdown, thyroid dysfunction, cognitive decline, reproductive disorders and infertility—even cancer and heart disease.
The only soy with health benefits is organic soy that has been properly fermented, and these are the only soy products I ever recommend consuming. After a long fermentation process, the phytate and "anti-nutrient" levels of soybeans are reduced, and their beneficial properties become available to your digestive system. To learn more, please see this previous article detailing the dangers of unfermented soy.

9. Artificial Sweeteners

Contrary to popular belief, studies have found that artificial sweeteners such as aspartame can stimulate your appetite, increase carbohydrate cravings, and stimulate fat storage and weight gain. In one of the most recent of such studies8, saccharin and aspartame were found to cause greater weight gain than sugar.
Aspartame is perhaps one of the most problematic. It is primarily made up of aspartic acid and phenylalanine. The phenylalanine has been synthetically modified to carry a methyl group, which provides the majority of the sweetness. That phenylalanine methyl bond, called a methyl ester, is very weak, which allows the methyl group on the phenylalanine to easily break off and form methanol.
You may have heard the claim that aspartame is harmless because methanol is also found in fruits and vegetables. However, in fruits and vegetables, the methanol is firmly bonded to pectin, allowing it to be safely passed through your digestive tract. Not so with the methanol created by aspartame; there it’s not bonded to anything that can help eliminate it from your body.
Methanol acts as a Trojan horse; it's carried into susceptible tissues in your body, like your brain and bone marrow, where the alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) enzyme converts it into formaldehyde, which wreaks havoc with sensitive proteins and DNA. All animals EXCEPT HUMANS have a protective mechanism that allows methanol to be broken down into harmless formic acid. This is why toxicology testing on animals is a flawed model. It doesn't fully apply to people.

Guidelines for Healthy Food

Whatever food you’re looking to eat, whether organic or locally grown, from either your local supermarket or a farmer’s market, the following are signs of a high-quality, healthy food. Most often, the best place to find these foods is from asustainable agricultural group in your area. You can also review my free nutrition plan to get started on a healthy eating program today:
  • It’s grown without pesticides and chemical fertilizers (organic foods fit this description, but so do some non-organic foods)
  • It’s not genetically engineered
  • It contains no added growth hormones, antibiotics, or other drugs
  • It does not contain artificial anything, nor any preservatives
  • It is fresh (if you have to choose between wilted organic produce or fresh conventional produce, the latter may still be the better option as freshness is important for optimal nutrient content)
  • It was not grown in a factory farm
  • It is grown with the laws of nature in mind (meaning animals are fed their native diets, not a mix of grains and animal byproducts, and have free-range access to the outdoors)
  • It is grown in a sustainable way (using minimal amounts of water, protecting the soil from burnout, and turning animal wastes into natural fertilizers instead of environmental pollutants)
