Go vegetarian

Posted on 10 February 2014 - 05:44pm

FOR health reasons, it is good to be a vegetarian. It also helps from the point of nutrition, spiritualism, ethics, compassion and economics.
More and more people in the United States, England, Europe and other parts of the world are moving to a vegetarian diet these days.
There is a growing acceptance in the West that vegetarianism – the practice of abstaining from the consumption of meat – is a more modern, scientific and healthy lifestyle.
Besides Indian saints and sages, many great men of the world like Plato, Socrates, Leonardo da Vinci and Einstein were vegetarians.
Medical authorities throughout the world have concluded that a vegetarian diet is ideal for promoting good health. Fruits, vegetables, pulses, nuts, and milk products provide a more balanced diet which does not turn into toxins in our system.
It is argued that there is a lot of protein in meat and eggs, but that we do not need that concentration of protein in our system. Our protein has to be as close to the natural source as possible.
There is plenty of protein in soyabeans, nuts, seeds and dairy products which are easier to digest.
You will notice that when a person is afflicted with cancer or heart disease, the doctor’s immediate advice to the patient is to go on a vegetarian diet.
So why wait for something to happen?
I ate meat all my life, then at the age of 53, I turned a complete vegetarian. I am enjoying every meal and I feel light and healthy.
However, when all is said and done, one’s diet is very much a personal choice.

Make time for reflection

THE power to “pack up” is the ability to stop wasteful thinking – simply to control our mind which comprises the thinking faculty, the intellect (the judging faculty) and the memory (the recording faculty). These are our three servants.

There should not be a battle, for battles are with enemies.

This is the time to make friends and uplift our servants to be more like our ministers, our inner cabinet.

We should encourage our mind to take a break. Shut down the production line for a while, and make quietness a luxury.

When our intellect asks us why it should be quiet, still and patient, tell it that the understanding it seeks only comes when it listens and observes, not when it questions and searches.

Invite it to relax and just observe what is going on.

As for the memory, when our old negative tendencies trigger fear, hatred or other negative emotions, we can lovingly change them to be positive.

The effect of these positive vibrations not only goes to the world outside but has an impact on each and every cell in the body. There will be a positive response.

I have to help myself and give some time to myself to remain silent. If there is physical illness, everyone will fuss around me and take me to the doctor, but with mental illness, no one comes to my aid.

Meditation becomes essential. Doing it on a regular basis, I develop a calm nature. A mind which is congested with impressions is given space to sort itself out.
